Von Kármán spatial correlation function to describe wave propagation in polycrystalline media

Analytical functions that describe the spatial heterogeneity in polycrystalline media are highly desirable. These mathematically tractable descriptors can be readily implemented physical models of static and dynamic material behavior, including wave propagation. This paper explores suitability von Kármán correlation (SCFs) to with a distribution grain sizes. The empirical two-point statistics compared other commonly reported SCFs. function is shown more accurate than exponential sum exponentials form. impact SCF on propagation scattering studied by employing well-defined analytical model for attenuation. attenuation varies over factor two aluminum case considered. results provide preliminary insights into closed-form increasingly complex microstructures.
